Testimonials | Indietrak

“I noticed from the beginning of the album and throughout the great deference you gave to the words. Though the arrangements and the mix became increasingly exquisite, there was never a point where you were in danger of burying the poetry of the lyrics, which indicated that you were at one with the spirit of the work. What I did for Bettina and Tom, by entering into their lives and bringing out exact duplicates, you did for me, and transitively for them, by your scrupulous respect for the material. You duplicated my intention and the spirit of River Oak.

At one point I found myself pulling the flannel shirt closed and buttoning it, not because it was chilly in the house, but because of the frisson of chills that kept recurring as I listened. Greg (Smith) was this mischievous spirit that kept flitting about kissing the the music in every sweet spot. I felt great friendship for him, as I do for you.

When it was over I walked out, stunned, into the library/guest room, where Lavada was packing for our drive to Savannah later today. She looked up and saw me…saw the state I was in, and asked, “Well, how was it?”

It was then I broke into tears.

Then I played it for her and at the end she opened her eyes and her first words were, “It’s like a play. It feels like a play, a stage production.” I was glad to hear that. Your and Greg’s sense of the dramatic arc are the cause.

She was blown away, as I was.

The album is just perfect the way it is. I keep hearing things, like the woodwinds on When Love Lives a Life, that are staggering in beauty.

I have a strange ambivalence about your moving on to the next project without me. I am both jealous and anxious for you to be on your way, living your magic in the lives of other hopeful songwriters and artists.

Merry Christmas Tony, my dear friend, and thank you so much for this fine work which is so good as to be stunning.” – Tony Baker

“I’ve worked with a number of producers and now I simply don’t want to work with any other producer than Tony. I’ve never before found a producer who so exactly duplicated my vision and who also was able to co-enhance it with me. Tony suggested and added great ideas and sounds that really brought my recordings to life. I often tell the story of when I had just finished playing a nylon-string guitar part and went outside to have a cigarette and came back in and said, “Wouldn’t it be wild to put tremolo and a distant reverb on the guitar, kind of like in Spaghetti Westerns?” and Tony said, “You mean like this?” – he had already done it while I was having my cigarette!

“Plus the recording sessions were also always great fun and it was obvious to me how much Tony enjoyed my music and that also made a difference.” – Sam MacTaggart

“If you have ever recorded an album before, you know that it becomes the very thing you live and breathe for during the time it takes to complete the project. You put your heart and soul and very self into every lyric, note and arrangement. It is a mission, a vision, and you can hear it from within. When something is this passion-driven, it is imperative that there is someone who can share that passion and care enough to help you to achieve that dream.

Tony Rockliff is a man of few words, but what he does say, and what he knows and can do in the studio, is not only exactly what an artist NEEDS, it goes above and beyond what you might receive in any other given production company.

Tony is always professional, and honest, so you KNOW when something’s good, it’s GOOD! On the flip side, you can be absolutely sure that if it’s less than desirable, Tony will, quite nicely, voice his expert opinion and work with you until it’s right.

And that is what every songwriter/musician/performer must have. A set of honest ears, and someone who does truly care about the finished product. I can’t tell you how many extra hours he must have put into my album.

We worked on it together and produced an album that I am proud of and can’t wait for the world to hear!

I am so thankful that I was led to Tony, and his wealth of knowledge, musician contacts, state of the art equipment, and downright dedication.

Will I turn to him the next time I want to record? No question. And I will bring him a coffee with cream, no sugar (he likes the natural kind).” – Erica DiCeglie

“Tony Rockliff has an uncanny ability to get the very best out of an artist, and the reason for this is simple: Aside from being a master Technician, he is, himself, an extraordinary Artist.

As Producer, Engineer, Consultant and Musician, Tony is a consummate professional. I consider working with him to be one of my greatest pleasures.

The other thing that sets him apart, is that he cares. And THAT, in this ‘me, me, me’ world is a rarity, indeed.”
– David Pomeranz, Multi-Platinum Award-Winning Recording Artist/Songwriter

“I couldn’t be more satisfied with my experience working with Tony Rockliff. He is a pure joy to work with. He makes a genuine effort in understanding an artist’s vision of what they want their music to portray, and has a great talent in creating exactly that. There were times when he knew exactly the kind of feel I wanted for a song before I even verbalized it to him. I feel he really brought out the best in my music, and helped me to create a product that I am extremely proud of. He also took my songs to the level that I really wanted them to be even when I hadn’t previously fully realized that that was where I wanted them to be. As a producer…Tony has a great ear, a great passion and drive to create good music, and a great big heart that really shines through the music he produces. Working with Tony has left me inspired, and I look forward to future projects with him.” – Stephanie Anderson

“Working with Tony at his studio was truly an amazing experience. Laid back, not stressful, and just downright fun! Tony Rockliff cared more about my perspective as an artist than what the business perspective was, and was always willing to go along with my crazy recording ideas no matter how weird or off the wall they were.

Not only was I able to record a truly professional and amazing album, I was also able to learn a lot about the behind the scenes recording process as well. Tony has an amazing insight into the whole recording process and was not afraid to share that with me throughout the recording of my album. He was able to offer me advice in spots where as an artist I was struggling with certain musical passages and couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with it. I plan on recording another album in a year or so and I plan to record that album with Tony Rockliff Productions.” – Andrew Baraban

“My experience with Tony Rockliff has been superb; we as artists work with waves, sounds, feelings, vibes, perceptions, etc. Music is an abstract form and between the mind and the world there is a whole walk to be walked. When I worked with Tony I found not only a mentor, but a well-versed and versatile man who helped me transform my ideas into sounds.

“But not only some ideas, I mean THE IDEAS. I believe that when it comes to producing one must absolutely have the right people around, because the ability to capture ideas fast, and in the moment, the flow of communication necessary for those ideas to be prominent, adequate, and just right, is extremely important.

“This is priceless, this is what helps define and craft music, it is in those moments that matter when having the right words said to you, or someone catching your idea and perceiving your vibe, making the whole creative and production process so effortless, helping you flow your sound out, that we either do art, or just another song.

“Tony is that man. His fluidity and craftsmanship are without compare and working with him has always been a pleasure and may I say a luxury. We may find many producers and sound engineers in the industry, that’s for sure, but it is not the craft of the man that makes the difference, it’s the man himself. That’s Tony Rockliff.” – Jessy Leros

“My Old Man came out like a masterpiece! It’s F#%^&))*^% FANTASTIC!! We LOVE how the harmony builds from the first to the third! It’s so rich and pure. And the sound quality is impeccable. THIS IS INCREDIBLY EXCITING – TO HEAR THE SONGS GET RICHER. The sound is obviously a lot better with your mixing and the new equipment! Thanks.” – James Braha

“I will always remember my sessions in your studio with great fondness! V is now hearing the music (I know I swore I would keep them secret until the CD came out, but the excitement was too much to bear) and she now understands why every night I came home from Clearwater so high and excited. She LOVES the sound of the rock songs – she LOVES that we can DANCE to this CD. She LOVES the intense solos that Greg did on Dark Skies and Elisabeth. I haven’t done something that has brought this kind of joy in a long time. I’m in love with having music put to my songs. I know you must get tired of hearing my gratitude, but this is a really special experience for me – and something I never thought would occur.

“I finally got the feeling that I will be able to sing well enough to do justice to all the great sounds you guys are making. I think the CD is going to be quite wonderful and CERTAINLY much more than I ever expected. I’m just amazed at the production values. THANKS MUCH. Tony, you do realize that every time you send me songs I can’t get anything done the rest of the day! Much too exciting!!!! THANKS!” – James Braha

”Tony Rockliff is a gifted professional Record Producer, Engineer, Consultant and Musician. lf you a looking for someone to respect and trust with your recording project, Tony is your man! When you walk into his studio, you will be made to feel like you are already a star. Tony has an amazing ability to make your sound so beautiful. Tony will help you bring your music dreams and turn them into magical, master recordings to share with the world.” – Lauren Van Dyke

“Tony Rockliff is a seasoned skilled professional. There is a unique balance between his technical expertise and artistic ability which is evident in the products he produces.

Tony will do an awesome job at arranging, engineering and producing your music and video productions. He is structured, organized and there is NO drama whatsoever.

For me, and this may sound “hokey”, Tony has literally brought my life’s work and dreams into fruition. You can’t put a price tag on this! He has taken on my work, as his work and I am grateful for this relationship.

I believe Tony and I will be working together for many, many years to come on multiple projects artistically and corporately. Thank you Tony Rockliff!” – John Michael Chambers

“My recording experience with Tony has been a great and rewarding one. Tony has an ability to pull great sounds out of me. I am a songwriter and guitarist/vocalist that when in the studio felt very comfortable when working with Tony. I was able to nail my parts and given a gentle push to perform better. I was amazed at how the product turned out and the many compliments saying, “great sound”. These compliments came from record labels and radio people. Tony knows how to get the best from you, not to mention his engineering skills are top notch. Thanks Tony!” – James Pergolatti

“Being professional, prompt and courteous doesn’t mean one has to be boring…working with Tony Rockliff is always an exciting event! Tony has brought great joy and a sense of humor to all of my recording sessions, while displaying the professionalism one would expect from a world class producer/engineer.

“He has always displayed sensitivity to the artist’s creative process, ensuring that my vision is what we are striving to bring into focus in the studio. He provides innovative ways of conjuring and shaping sounds, is willing to experiment, and will build upon “happy accidents” in order to provide a unique musical statement in the final mixes. Tony goes “the extra mile” to see to it that I have a superior product as a result.

“I had an epiphany Friday night just from listening back to Secret Lullaby… I heard it as if I were hearing it from another artist and thought “Wow, that is really good!” and I got excited…had to remind myself it was me…and then I believed!!! I got the feeling it is going to be big…

I look forward to our future musical adventures!” – Chuck Colonair

“When I first started recording with Tony I really was not that sure of myself as to my potentials in music. I had never really profesionally recorded before and had quite a lot of stress and weird emotions once I stood standing in front of that mic. It took a number of tries for me to get my vocal pretty much where I wanted it to be and Tony was always there giving me good advice (even when my voice sounded like a beat-up violin due to allergies).

I recently went to Europe with the finished song on a CD and everyone I met that listened to it said that they absolutely loved it. As the person who wrote the song, sang the song and played the song I was not exactly 100% in confidence with it. But when I saw the feedback I got from it, then it was clear that people loved it, so I loved it. I look forward to doing more songs with Tony in the future now that I have the experience necessary in song recording. Thank you very much, Tony.” – Steve Valtin

“We really did have a good time producing it with you and love the final work! You did a great job!” – Jackie & Heather Magness

“Lesson one: Do not call Tony Rockliff with a negative approach to anything. He will get you to take a hard look at yourself, your music and what you want to do with it. He will show you how to speak to your listeners through your ideas, musical statements and using his technical knowhow. He is not an everyday technician on a sound board; he is a wizard.

“Lesson two: Make clear statements about what sound, feeling, message or mood you want to create. The emphasis will be on what you want to create. He will help you get there.

“Lesson three: Nothing will leave the studio with Tony’s name on it if it isn’t a superior piece of work. I spent time listening to the performances; picking out every minute flaw that WILL BE FOUND by Tony to be either questionable or just totally unacceptable AND IS NOT GOING TO COME OUT OF HIS STUDIO OR HAVE HIS NAME ON IT. Great music does not happen overnight. Ask questions, suggest things, use Tony’s know-how. Nothing Tony does is not thought out. He will give you the advantage of his expertise at every turn. You hired him for the best sound possible …………use him.

“I have been playing drums for over forty five years and I have experienced the great, near great and the ridiculous as far as recording techs go. Until last March, 2008 I had never experienced a man who had ever gotten involved as deeply into any of my projects and honestly as Tony Rockliff did and still does. When I was down about something going on in the recording; he and I went over it and over it until there was a feeling of total satisfaction with that current effort. This approach was used on all nine tracks of “SPONTANEITY “ which is receiving nice reviews worldwide as a well-produced jazz CD.

“I brought what I thought was a great idea for a CD and Tony helped me make it exactly what I asked for.

“Good production comes from the best Producer/Engineer…………………use Tony Rockliff; you won’t regret it.”

“Wow! what did you do? The final mastering really pulled everything together! I kind of thought as we went along that something was lacking and was a bit concerned there toward the end, as I had no idea what it was or how to articulate it. But I am really excited about the final mastering! Thank you!!!” – Chuck Colonair

“Tony Rockliff is a true Wizard!! He was able to magically transform some live 2-mike recordings from very noisy 2nd and 3rd generation cassettes to a very high quality product which sounds like the tunes were recorded in the best studio conditions! And theupgrade was just as astounding on other studio recordings (also taken from 2nd and 3rd generation cassettes) for the same project. I’m truly amazed and pleased with the results. Tony’s professionalism is superior, aside from him being a real pleasure to work with! Thanks for everything, Tony!” – Steve Smuck

“What every singer/songwriter is looking for in a producer is someone who will truly understand the intention, viewpoint and universe of that particular song and make it come alive. Preserving and bringing out the integrity of the song means everything. Tony Rockliff took a very, very sketchy acoustic guitar rendition of my song and made it into a full rock production that was creative and professional. It still was totally my song — just bigger and better. He also appreciated and used my input to the project rather than just bypassing me. Tony is very safe and creates a warm and playful environment. On top of getting a great product, it’s a heck of a lot of fun!” – Tom Lane

“An artist’s project is seldom completely understood and duplicated when it comes to their own feeling and vision of a production – so one expects a compromise. Until Tony Rockliff. Tony expertly breaks down any possible barriers that may seemingly be in the way of the artist’s complete expression, then follows down your journey of aesthetics enhancing each turn, marrying into the concept and without a flinch lifting you through each plateau. Working with Tony was so effortless that I felt able to “make love” to my music. A Master Producer.” – Kanga LaVrado

“I would like to thank Tony for the fantastic job he did on the production of The Road’s ‘This Time It’s Love’. Tony’s pre-production and efficiency in the studio kept the sessions running very smoothly. Tony also has a fantastic ability to create a safe space and produce great sounds and bring the best out of an artist and get it onto tape. This is something very needed in this business and Tony really came through for us.” – Joe Hesse

“I wanted to write to you to express our satisfaction with our recent recording sessions with you acting not only as the producer, but also the engineer. It never fails that you seem to take the quality of the session seriously to the point where it is hard to tell demos apart from masters. This is so true that I know we could get away with pressing our demos, and no-one (but you) would know the difference. We are also very pleased to see that you have mastered the new computer technology, and the savings to us in studio time and money is further proof that your concern goes deeper than just making sure the levels are right. We are impressed that you stay up to date on the latest changes in the computers, and are constantly updating the sounds available for our use.” – Marx, May & Tally

“Tony, I wanted to let you know how fun it was to record in your studio earlier…. I had a blast! It was so great to have your expertise for the recording of my first demo. And the fact that you made it easy and comfortable for me was a real bonus. You are brilliant and amazing, and I am learning a lot in this process. I am so excited to record the next song! “Thank you again for all of your hard work and care.” – Tina Thomas

“I had a CD I recorded a couple of years ago containing a bunch of my instrumental guitar originals. I had a lot of personal hoopla on it when I 1st did it and I managed to “hawk” about 60 or so of them to my friends and acquaintances in a somewhat enforced manner. Then the wind went out of my sails on it and I lost interest in pushing it and really didn’t know what to do next to get it to the next level.

“Enter master sound engineer/music industry pro Tony Rockliff. He initially said the exact things to get me re-inspired to do something further with the CD. The first quest was to really master it (I had done a fairly good job at mixing it on my home system but I had no idea really of the mastering process).

“Wow! What a difference having it mastered in the hands of a world class pro like Tony. He is a blur of tools on his computer that look largely like Martian to me and he works in a whir of skilled action as he does delicate surgery on your music. But he’s with you on each step, checking if you are happy with each result of the mastering process. And boy! What a difference!

“Each piece just came to life. I am newly inspired to get my CD into the hands of many. I additionally attended a seminar Tony did on marketing your CD which was incredible and gave me the exact tools to get my music out there and really selling. If you have music to be recorded, mixed or mastered or need help on how to actually go to the next level in getting your music out there, Tony is definitely your man. Look him up and go to work, you won’t regret it in the least.” – Greg Smith

“Tony produced a sound that was current, powerful and still kept the mood of the songs intact – exactly what I wanted.” – Gary Baun

“I just wanted to thank you once again for the FABULOUS production job done on “Umbrella”. The comments have been utterly amazing. I KNOW it would have been impossible to get this project done without you – I would have been lost without your objectivity, knowledge and, most of all, calmness! I look forward to our next project!” – Sherry Strain

“I want to thank you, Tony, for producing for us such an incredibly effective music recording of our band. Your work contributed in a major way to a huge surge of interest from our potential clients.

“It is clear that your understanding and experience of engineering, mixing and mastering and application of your knowledge of music is rare and unmatched.

“You demonstrated such a technical expertise in producing this demo, that whenever any of our prospects initially listen to the demo online or on CD, they’re hooked. They, one for one, express overwhelming emotion-filled satisfaction and that is the key to successfully selling our music.

“We look forward to future projects together and your most valuable assistance in helping our group achieve artistic and career success in the business of music.” – Joe Yazbeck
